Onanuga mocks coalition leaders over poor outing at by-election

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said that it is under pressure to zone its presidential ticket in 2027. The ADC’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Jackie Wayas, said that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) holds the final decision on zoning or rotation of the presidential ticket.

Wayas also disclosed that the ADC is deliberating on either adopting zoning or an open primary system in deciding its presidential flag bearer.

“There is a lot of pressure to zone and, at the same time, not to zone the presidential ticket.

“There can only be one presidential candidate on the ballot come 2027 from the ADC, and the final decision on zonal rotation or open competition will definitely come down to our internal party negotiation and NEC guidelines,” she said.

Wayas said that ADC’s foremost priority is rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges and placing the nation’s interest above all. Meanwhile, the ADC has assured Nigerians that prominent political leaders, including Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi, will remain united in their mission to transform the country, regardless of who eventually secures the party’s presidential ticket for the 2027 elections.

Wayas said this during an interview with newsmen yesterday. She noted that the pact binding Atiku, Obi, and Amaechi goes beyond individual ambition and is rooted in their shared commitment to rebuilding Nigeria. Wayas also disclosed that the ADC is in the process of establishing a policy committee to develop a governance blueprint for the party.

The ADC, she added, is equally confident of mobilising 35 million voters ahead of the 2027 polls, banking on its rapidly growing membership and the expectation that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will guarantee smooth voter registration and Permanent Voter Card (PVC) collection.

HOWEVER, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has taken a jab at the opposition coalition following their poor outing in last Saturday’s by-elections across the country.

Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle, @aonanuga1956, yesterday, mocked the outing of the coalition after the results declared by INEC showed the All Progressives Congress (APC) the clear winner.
