Popular Oyo State broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, has explained why he is contesting the 2027 governorship election under the Accord Party, saying his decision was guided by divine direction and a desire to serve the people.

Speaking during his Agidigbo FM programme on Monday, Hamzat thanked supporters and advisers who attended his weekend rally at Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.

Known for his catchphrase “e gbenu si mic” (“speak to the microphone”), he said he considered both encouragement and warnings from advisers before submitting the matter to God. “I tabled it to God, and he approved my contesting. I don’t want to disobey God because I want to please most of you who warned me against contesting,” he said.

Hamzat stressed that his ambition is rooted in service, not personal gain. “I want to serve the people and not be like most of those corrupt politicians. I believe I will win because the people are for me, and I didn’t buy anyone to be at the event,” he declared.

He dismissed doubts about his chances, saying he no longer fears being rigged out.

“We have moved on from the point of whether I would be rigged out or lose the election. I am seeking all your support,” he added.

Hamzat noted that he had never planned to join a political party or seek office, having previously only supported others.

He emphasized that his candidacy is not backed by wealth, political influence, or government support.

“I don’t have money or political connections, and I don’t have the backing of the government of the day. I have come with God, and that is all I need,” the Kokoro Alate host said.
