Council workers accuse NULGE leaders of sellout, to resume on Monday
Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, lampooned Governor Ademola Adeleke for the alleged plot of his government to hijack the federal allocations due to local councils in the state.

The opposition party in the state said that instead of addressing the recent killing of three persons at Akinlalu community in Ife-North Local Council of the state, which had thrown the residents into mourning, Adeleke’s administration had been preoccupied with the agitation for councils’ allocations.

A statement by APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, said that on October 1, people were jolted by the unfortunate news of the extra-judicial killings of three youths of Akinlalu town by thugs suspected to be officials of the Amotekun Security Corps, allegedly acting on the instruction of their Commander, Kunle Omoyele.

It added that residents of the community had faulted the claim of the Amotekun Corps that its operatives were first ambushed by armed hoodlums, maintaining that the community is peace-loving and has no history of harbouring hoodlums.

HOWEVER, some workers of Osun local councils have declared their readiness to ignore the directive of the leadership of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and resume work on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The council workers, under the umbrella of the Association of Concerned Local Government Workers of Osun State, accused the executive members of NULGE, led by Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, of sellout, saying:

“Ogungbangbe has been using (Osun LG workers) to make money. You journalists should do your findings; you will discover the assets he has got since this needless strike began.”

Coordinator of the concerned workers, Adebayo Adekunle, during a media briefing at the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Osogbo, yesterday, said that Ogungbangbe unilaterally called the strike that has collapsed local administration in the state, adding that the industrial action was “useless.”

He said that the concerned workers would be working with the reinstated chairmen under the major opposition APC in the state, calling on other workers to resume work on Monday.

Adekunle said many workers had been battling all sorts of ailments because they have been idle at home, adding: “It is uncivilised for a union leader to resolve unilaterally to call a strike which has lasted for over seven months. We say enough is enough. The excuse of insecurity is no longer tenable; no insecurity anywhere. We are the landlords of local council secretariats, and it is unheard that landlords quit their property for all kinds of pests and animals to occupy.”

“For the fact that legal actions are ongoing does not mean we should abscond from our primary assignment for which we are being paid.”

Meanwhile, Ogungbangbe has warned workers against resuming duties at the secretariats, citing safety concerns as an excuse.
