Unbeaten NPFL leaders Rivers United, who have conceded just two goals in nine games, visit high-scoring Bendel Insurance on matchday 10.

According to Nigerian Matchday, whose table is used throughout this piece, Rivers lead the 2026/27 NPFL on 17 points from nine games, level with Enugu Rangers, who have played eight. Bendel Insurance are 10th on 12 points from eight games.

Nigerian Matchday lists the fixture for Sunday 25 October at 16:00 WAT. Other listings place it on Saturday, so sources differ and fans should check before travelling.

The table at a glance

Rivers have won four and drawn five, with 13 goals scored and 2 conceded. No other club in the table has conceded fewer than seven. Their latest result was a 0-0 draw with Barau FC on 18 October, per the same table.

Bendel have won four and lost four, with 14 scored and 13 conceded. They have drawn none of their eight games.

One caution on the data: the same table lists Inter Lagos on 2 points although their record of one win and two draws adds up to 5. We have used only results and figures that add up.

Analysis: a draw-heavy leader against a side that never draws

The contrast is the story. Rivers’ five draws show a side that rarely loses and sometimes struggles to finish games off. Bendel’s record of four wins and four defeats, with 14 goals scored, suggests a team that plays to win or lose.

If that pattern holds, a draw would suit Rivers, who have kept the best defensive numbers in the league. A win would lift Rivers clear of Rangers, who face Sporting Lagos on Saturday, and a Bendel win would break the unbeaten run. Our earlier look at the race is in why Rangers hold the edge at the top, and the Sporting Lagos v Rangers preview covers the other half of the title picture.

Rivers have yet to lose this season. Bendel, scoring freely at home, are the test of whether that record can last another weekend.
