England midfielder Jude Bellingham has held positive talks with Real Madrid over a new contract that could keep him at the Spanish club until 2031.

As reported by BBC Sport on Friday, Bellingham, 23, has just over two-and-a-half years remaining on his current deal, but Spanish media reports suggest a potential extension would secure his long-term future at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The former Borussia Dortmund midfielder joined Real Madrid in 2023 for €103m (£88.5m) and has scored 49 goals in 152 appearances for the Spanish giants.

He made an immediate impact during his first season, scoring 19 goals and providing six assists in 28 La Liga appearances as Real Madrid won the league title and the UEFA Champions League.

Bellingham’s goalscoring numbers declined in subsequent seasons, with nine goals and eight assists in the league during the 2024-25 campaign. He registered six goals and four assists in the 2025-26 season, which was disrupted by several injury setbacks.

However, his performances have continued to demonstrate his importance to the team, with his creativity, work rate and tactical versatility making him a key figure in Real Madrid’s midfield.

He has also made a promising start to the 2026-27 campaign, recording three goals and three assists in nine games under manager Jose Mourinho.

Bellingham’s influence extends beyond his attacking contributions, with his ability to perform in decisive moments helping establish him as a fan favourite at the Bernabeu.

An improved contract would reflect his importance to the squad and underline Real Madrid’s desire to retain one of Europe’s most highly rated midfielders for the long term.

At 23, the England international also has several peak years ahead of him, making a potential renewal a significant investment in the club’s future domestic and European ambitions.

Bellingham’s rise has also strengthened his standing with the England national team. He reportedly scored seven goals during the summer World Cup, where England finished third, and was named the national team’s men’s player of the year.

Although an agreement has yet to be confirmed, the positive discussions suggest both parties are open to extending their relationship, with a deal potentially keeping Bellingham at Real Madrid until 2031.
