The National headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Kwara State congress as a prototype of a desired electoral process.
The INEC Returning Officer, Jacob Mark, observed that the congress, held on Saturday in Ilorin, was like conducting a family business.
He urged other political parties to take a cue from the exercise, which he described as commendable.
In the same vein, the former Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, commended the party members for demonstrating maturity, fairness, and internal democracy.
He said the peaceful conduct of the exercise has positioned the PDP as a credible alternative in Kwara State.
“The PDP has once again shown that it is the party that provides a level playing field and prioritises the will of the people,” he said.
He added: “At PDP, the INEC officials can see that we are very mature and peaceful. I am very sure that in other parties’ congresses, you will need security because they are not coordinated and may end up throwing chairs, as they usually do.
“The maturity displayed in the Kwara State congresses is a reflection of the national character of our great party.”
The PDP recently concluded its ward and local government congresses across Kwara, culminating in Saturday’s state-level exercise in Ilorin.
After the exercise, Alhaji Adamu Bawa Issa from Kaiama emerged as chairman, having scored 1,498 of the 1,572 accredited delegates.
Mrs. Wasilat Atinuke Macarthy from Offa is the new PDP deputy chair, Mallam Abdullahi AbdulRahman (Ilorin West) the secretary, Rev. C.O.S. Fawenu from Ifelodun (Treasurer), and Hon. Umar Shero from Baruten the financial secretary.
While Olusegun Olushola Samuel, popularly known as Sholyment, from Isin, was returned as the party’s Publicity Secretary, Barrister Monsurat Omotosho is now the Legal Advisor, with Imam Musa Bashir from Mooro, among other Exco members, as the Auditor.
