The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cautioned the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) against interpreting court judgments relating to the ongoing local government crisis in the state.
This comes after NULGE president in Osun, Nathaniel Ogungbangbe, alleged during a press conference in Osogbo that the Minister of Finance, the Attorney General of the Federation, and the Accountant-General of the Federation had released withheld federal allocations for local councils to APC chairmen reinstated by a Court of Appeal judgment delivered in February 2025.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the APC dismissed NULGE’s allegations, insisting that the union was misinforming the public about the disbursement of council funds.
Olabisi maintained that the February 10, 2025, Court of Appeal judgment reinstating APC council chairmen and councillors remains valid and unchallenged.
He argued that NULGE had no authority to interpret court rulings.
“It is also not true that the federal allocations are being paid into the accounts of any of our local government chairmen or APC members. They are paid directly into the local government councils’ accounts,” the statement read.
The APC accused NULGE of acting as a partisan body, claiming that its leadership had abandoned its primary role as a labour union and was now aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“The public is wiser, having passed through the hardship caused by Ogungbangbe’s pursuit of self-interest,” Olabisi stated.
“The same NULGE that previously claimed federal allocations were withheld is now peddling falsehoods despite the resolution of the logjam.”
The party alleged that NULGE had been on a “sympathy strike” in solidarity with Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration for the past seven months in a bid to control local government funds.
