A major support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Progressive Foundation Movement (PFM), has applauded Hon. Abubakar Kabiru Abubakar Bichi, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, for playing a key role in uniting Kano stakeholders behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Hon. Olaniyi Olawale, the group praised Bichi’s “passion, commitment and investment” in ensuring unity among APC leaders in Kano, Nigeria’s most populous state.
The commendation followed a meeting of Kano APC stakeholders in Abuja on Thursday, where party leaders, including former governor and immediate-past APC National Chairman Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin, Minister of State for Housing Alhaji Abdullahi Atta, and Senator Kabiru Gaya, declared their support for President Tinubu’s second term.
Also in attendance were Senator Kawu Sumaila, Hon. Mohammed Garba, Sulaiman Bichi, and several current and former lawmakers and commissioners.
Speaking at the gathering, Hon. Bichi highlighted key federal projects being delivered in the North-West, particularly in Kano. He said President Tinubu would soon visit the state to lay the foundation for the $1 billion Light Rail project, which he described as “one of the most important projects in Northern Nigeria.”
“In 2023, Kano delivered 600,000 votes for the President. The Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano road is almost complete, as are multiple sections of the Kano-Maiduguri and Kano-Katsina highways. The Light Rail project will further transform the state,” Bichi said.
He dismissed claims that the administration was neglecting the North, insisting that President Tinubu’s record of investment in Kano proved otherwise.
The PFM said Bichi’s grassroots mobilisation efforts had helped strengthen Tinubu’s popularity across Kano, stressing that his ability to rally critical stakeholders underscored his influence within the party.
“We are highly impressed by Hon. Abubakar Kabiru Abubakar Bichi’s commitment to promoting and rallying support for Mr President ahead of the 2027 elections,” the group said. “His mobilisation at the grassroots continues to endear the President to the people of Kano.”
The group urged APC stakeholders to build on this momentum to ensure a resounding victory for the party in 2027.
