The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youths Council, Taraba State chapter, has rejected the reported defection of Governor Agbu Kefas to the ruling party, describing the move as “unacceptable” and inconsistent with APC’s core values.
In a statement issued on Thursday in Jalingo, the state capital, the council said youth leaders from across the state convened and unanimously passed a vote of no confidence on Governor Kefas, asserting that his political ideology and leadership style do not align with the progressive principles of the APC.

“We, the youths of APC in Taraba State, unanimously reject the defection of Governor Agbu Kefas into our great party. He is not a progressive leader, and APC is not a party for his calibre. Our stand is clear, we are not in support of his coming,” said Bilyamin Musa, State Coordinator of the APC Youths Council.

The council accused Governor Kefas of lacking vision and capacity, claiming that his two years in office had failed to deliver meaningful development in Taraba State.

The group also called on the national leadership of the APC to heed the concerns of Taraba youths and ensure the party remains a platform for visionary, disciplined, and development-focused leaders.

Reaffirming their loyalty to the APC and the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the youths pledged to continue mobilising young people across the state in support of the party’s growth and success.

Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Taraba State Governor on Legal Matters, Barrister Sani Marke, has hailed Governor Kefas’s defection to the APC, describing it as a bold and strategic move aimed at accelerating development and fostering political stability in the state.

In a statement issued in Jalingo last week, Marke commended the governor for what he termed “an act of statesmanship and political foresight,” stressing that the decision reflects a commitment to Taraba’s growth rather than partisan interest.

“Governor Agbu Kefas has once again proven that he is a true patriot who puts the interest of Taraba first. His decision to align with the centre is not about political convenience but about expanding the frontiers of opportunities for our people. This strategic realignment will ensure that Taraba is not left behind in the developmental agenda of the Federal Government,” Marke said.

The Special Adviser also applauded the APC leadership at both state and zonal levels for their warm reception of the governor.

He specifically acknowledged Senator David Jimkuta, Barrister Uba Maigari Ahmadu, Senator Sani Abubakar Danladi, Jerry Manwe, Ibrahim Tukur El-Sudi, and the North East Zonal Chairman, Comrade Mustapha Salisu, for their “statesmanlike disposition.”
