The former presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said that a threat against the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, is a threat against all.

Atiku, who has resigned from the PDP and embraced the opposition coalition under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), alongside Obi and others to unseat President Tinubu in 2027, stated this in a post he shared on X on Tuesday afternoon.

“Let it be known that a threat against Peter Obi or any of us is a threat against ALL of us! -AA,” he wrote.
Atiku’s remark comes after many Nigerians accused the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, of threatening the former Labour Party presidential candidate.

The Edo governor had warned Obi against visiting the state again without prior notice, adding that he would face the consequences if he did.

Prior to that, Obi had visited Benin, the capital of Edo, on July 7 and donated ₦15 million to St Philomena Hospital School of Nursing Sciences for the completion of projects in the school.

After receiving backlash from various quarters for his remarks, Okpebholo issued a statement noting that his remarks were misinterpreted.

“It is imperative to state clearly that the Governor did not issue any form of threat to Mr. Obi, but rather emphasised the need for high-profile individuals, particularly politically exposed persons, to notify and seek security clearance from the Governor before embarking on any public engagements within the State,” the statement read in part.
