Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has apologized to Galatasaray fans following their disappointing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Samsunspor on Saturday, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Cimbom had a chance to wrap up the Süper Lig title when they locked horns with Samsunspor at the Samsun 19 Mayıs Stadyumu. Given the way they saw off close rivals Fenerbahçe in the Istanbul derby last week, they were expected to see off mid-table Samsunspor quite easily.
Galatasaray looked good at the start and eventually scored the opener, courtesy of Yunus Akgün off an assist from Osimhen.

However, that was the only goal they could muster. Marius Mouandilmadji netted the equalizer for Samsunspor in the 22nd minute. In the second half, the home side took over completely after Galatasaray’s goalkeeper Günay Güvenç was sent off.
Marius added another goal to his name, before Cherif Ndiaye scored a brace to ensure that they embarrassed Galatasaray and delayed their trophy party.
Osimhen played the entire 90 minutes for the defending Süper Lig champions. Aside from his assist, it was one of his worst games as a Galatasaray player.
He looked off on the night—his four goal attempts were not on target, he lost the ball 10 times, and he struggled to link up with his teammates. In fact, it was his back-pass that got Güvenç sent off and a turnover from him that led to Samsunspor’s second goal.
What Victor Osimhen Said To Galatasaray Fans
After the game, Victor Osimhen admitted that it was a disappointing showing from him and his teammates. But he noted that it changes nothing, as Galatasaray are still in firm control of the title race.
The 27-year-old striker assured the club’s fans that they will do their best to wrap up the title against Antalyaspor at RAMS Park next week.
”We knew it wouldn’t be easy. We knew it would be a tough opponent,” Osimhen said, per NTV Spor.
”We were aware that winning the championship here wouldn’t be so easy. We didn’t play well either. We will win our home game and declare our championship.
”We also apologize to the fans. They didn’t leave us alone; they were by our side. We will look ahead.”
It is crucial that Galatasaray win their game against Antalyaspor next week. If they drop points again, they will be under a lot of pressure going into the final fixture of the season at Kasımpaşa.
For Osimhen, he will be looking to bounce back from his poor display in Samsun and show why he is rated as one of the best strikers in the world.
