Super Eagles and Galatasaray head striker Victor Osimhen got into an altercation towards the end of the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce last night, Soccerenet.ng reports.

That action has elicited mixed reactions from fans, but Turkiye and Galatasaray goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır believes such an attitude is what the club demands from its leaders.

Osimhen did get away with a yellow card after the incident, but that’s just water off the duck’s back for the Barcelona-linked striker.

Uğurcan Çakır lauds Osimhen’s fiery character

Uğurcan Çakır took over as Galatasaray’s number one striker this season after Fernando Muslera’s 14-year spell at RAMS Park came to an end.

After the game, the Turkiye goalkeeper was impressed with how his team dominated in the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce.

“We were in charge of the game from the beginning to the end of the game. We didn’t put Fenerbahçe in the game except for the penalty,” the 30-year-old said in quotes revealed by Galataray’s official website.

“Our coach Okan Buruk prepared us very well. We’ve projected what we’ve been working on the field. We got a clear win.”

Quizzed about the altercation involving Osimhen towards the end of the game, the former Trabzonspor goalkeeper said:

“There are different individiauls with different character here. Abdulkerim is already the first mate after Mauro. He’s a real leader.

“Yunus was raised from the youth side and has contributed to titles here. For me, I always play for my team. I’ll put the team first rather than myself.

“I see myself as a leader, but only whenever my teammate needs me, I’m an assistant.

“Mauro, Victor [Osimhen] , Lemina are the leading players, and it reflects in how we play our football on the pitch,” Çakır concluded.
