The Super Falcons have beaten Comoros 7-0 on aggregate, and their reward is a third-round Olympic qualifier against Morocco, a side that has pushed Nigeria hard in recent years.

Nigeria won the second leg 5-0 on 13 October at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, reported Legit.ng on 14 October. Soccernet covered the big takeaways from the 5-0 win.

The Morocco tie is in March 2027, according to Legit.ng and ThisDay. Legit.ng said only two African teams qualify for the Olympics.

A rivalry that has turned

Legit.ng set out the history. Nigeria beat Morocco 8-0 at the 1998 WAFCON and 6-0 at the 2000 edition in Abeokuta. In the 2022 WAFCON semi-final in Rabat, Nigeria drew 1-1 after extra time while reduced to nine players, and Morocco won 5-4 on penalties.

In the 2024 WAFCON final, played in July 2025 in Rabat, Morocco led 2-0 before Nigeria won 3-2.

“Morocco will be a tough opponent because they have improved significantly in women’s football over the last few years.”

That was Stella Martins-Oseji, a Nigerian women’s football expert, speaking to Legit.ng. She added that Nigeria must be organised defensively, take their chances and remain disciplined across both legs.

Analysis: Why Comoros cannot tell us much

A 7-0 aggregate shows the Super Falcons can beat a lower-ranked opponent comfortably, and little more. The two most recent meetings listed by Legit.ng tell a different story: one went to a penalty shootout and the other needed a comeback from two goals down.

That pattern suggests the tie could turn on small margins over two legs, especially as only two African places are on the line. If Nigeria stay organised and take their chances, as Martins-Oseji argued, history favours them, but the record from Rabat shows how fine the line has been.

Soccernet has also looked at why Nigeria’s World Cup place is in doubt despite being Africa’s best on paper. The exact March dates and venues are still to be confirmed.
