The All Progressives Congress in Sokoto State on Tuesday adopted a consensus approach in electing new state executives at its State Congress, projecting a message of unity and internal cohesion.
Delegates affirmed the agreed list of executives through a voice vote after it was presented by the State Congress Committee dispatched from the party’s national headquarters.
Haruna Adiya was affirmed as the new State Chairman, succeeding Isa Sadiq Achida.
Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Mukhtar Musa, told delegates that the committee was constitutionally empowered to conduct elections into the state organs of the party, adding that stakeholders had opted for consensus to strengthen solidarity within the party.
Following the voice vote, Adiya delivered a brief acceptance speech, thanking members for their confidence and pledging to justify the trust reposed in him.
“Alhamdulillah, we thank Almighty Allah for this responsibility. By His grace, we will work together, unite our members and move the party forward,” he said.
In his remarks, the outgoing chairman, Achida, expressed appreciation to party members for their cooperation during his tenure and commended the state governor for his accessibility and service to the people.
Other officials affirmed at the congress include Alhaji Yahya Buhari as Deputy State Chairman, Barrister Bello Abdullahi as State Secretary and Abubakar Wada as Assistant State Secretary.
The motion to adopt the consensus executives was moved by Abubakar Yabo and seconded by Aminu Gidado before delegates gave unanimous approval.
Party stakeholders described the orderly conduct of the congress as a boost to the APC’s stability in Sokoto State ahead of future political activities.
