Paul Onuachu joined Trabzonspor from Southampton in a permanent transfer in the summer….

Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu was a top target for Dutch Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven during last summer’s transfer window, but they couldn’t secure his services, Soccernet.ng reports.

Onuachu had quite an interesting summer. Going into the summer break, it was almost set in stone that he would leave Southampton, who got relegated from the Premier League last season.

Trabzonspor seemed like the most likely destination, as he already had a one-year stint there before and was very brilliant.

After many weeks of negotiations due to Southampton’s high financial demands, the pulled off the transfer.

That has turned out to be the right decision, as Onuachu has been an instant hit at Trabzonspor. He has scored seven goals in nine Super Lig appearances.

However, the Black Sea Storm could have easily lost their flying Super Eagles star. In a report by Transfer Watcher, it was revealed that PSV Eindhoven’s sporting director Earnest Stewart explored a move for Onuachu, but it did not materialize.

The reason was probably because Onuachu had his heart at Trabzonspor. PSV eventually went on to sign Dennis Man from Parma.
