Rivers United coach Finidi George said Rangers International “got a draw and they should not complain” after the 1-1 NPFL game at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

Chijioke Mbaoma gave Rivers the lead in the 17th minute and Godwin Obaje equalised for Rangers in the 53rd, as reported by Complete Sports. Rivers stayed top of the table on goal difference, with Rangers second.

What Finidi said

Finidi was unhappy with how Rangers managed the closing stages, Complete Sports reported.

“They got a draw and they should not complain.”

He pointed to players going down late in the game.

“You saw the way the players were falling down as if they are not fit, but I wasn’t pleased with their time-wasting tactics.”

Analysis: A point that keeps the top clustered

The draw leaves the top of the table tight. Soccernet’s matchday 11 roundup had four clubs sharing top spot, and the build-up to this fixture had three level on 17 points.

Rivers stayed ahead only on goal difference, so the margin is thin. If the league stays this close, how matches are managed late on will keep mattering.

Rivers and Rangers will both be watching each other’s results in the next round.
