Financial technology company, OnePipe, has introduced an automated bill payment feature on its PaywithAccount platform to help Nigerians manage recurring utility and service payments more efficiently.
The feature, which enables users to schedule and automate payments for electricity, airtime, and mobile data subscriptions directly from their bank accounts, was launched in response to growing demand for simpler and more reliable payment options.
A recent survey by Enhancing Financial Innovation & Access (EFInA) showed that nearly half of Nigerian adults missed at least one critical utility or service payment in the past year, often due to the difficulty of managing multiple bills manually.
Speaking on the launch, Product Manager of PaywithAccount, Akin Olunloye, said the new tool was developed to address this widespread challenge.
“Managing monthly payments has become a significant source of stress for many Nigerians. This scheduling feature within PaywithAccount is a direct response to the need for automation. Our goal is to help consumers streamline their payments reliably and consistently,” he said.
Users can now access the feature through paywithaccount.com, where payments are processed automatically on preset dates. The platform also issues digital receipts and notifications to confirm successful transactions.
For many consumers, the development promises relief from missed payments and service disruptions. A Lagos-based lawyer, identified simply as Chinyere, shared her experience: “Missing electricity payments has always been a hassle in my household. Automating with PaywithAccount has eliminated that completely. I get notifications and receipts immediately through WhatsApp. It’s made a big difference.”
Currently, the automated scheduling feature supports payments to major electricity distribution companies and all primary mobile network operators in Nigeria. OnePipe said it plans to expand coverage soon to include cooperative society dues, insurance premiums, and other regular financial commitments.
