The First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged women in leadership positions across government to deliberately create opportunities that make life easier for other women through economic empowerment and mentorship.
She made the call when the Forum of Female Chief Executives of Government Agencies and Organisations paid her a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Describing the CEOs as trailblazers who embody the spirit of leadership, the First Lady said they carry the responsibility of replicating themselves by nurturing younger women.
“Birth yourselves in others. Look for them to mentor them. Replicate yourself in other women, and that is the way we would be strong. Make yourselves unforgettable by the things you do outside your office,” she said.
Senator Tinubu also invoked the legacies of Nigeria’s great matriarchs, including Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Margaret Ekpo, Gambo Sawaba, and Abibat Mogaji, who she noted came together to champion the cause of women when it mattered most.
“We have to come together, better and stronger than they. We must ensure that we make life easier for women. Mentor young women, give scholarships, and take one person through life. Don’t look for the volume,” she added.
On her advocacy for partnership in completing the National Library, the First Lady said the project remains a priority for her, as it would provide significant support for indigent students in their educational pursuits.
Speaking on behalf of the Forum, Chairperson and Director General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, reaffirmed the group’s loyalty to the administration and its commitment to good governance.
“As a group, Your Excellency, we do not take our mandates lightly. We are sincerely grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for deeming us fit to hold our respective offices.
“That is why we are here to pledge our support to the Administration and to you as First Lady of the Nation.
“We commend your Renewed Hope Initiatives and your dedication to women’s empowerment, inclusion, and gender equity. As a group and as individuals, we affirm our commitment to work collaboratively with your office to foster unity among women, drive progress, and advance national development.
“We also pledge our solidarity with the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President and will work for his success in the 2027 elections,” she said.
Twenty-four female CEOs of government agencies and organisations were in attendance at the meeting.
