The Obidient Movement on Saturday urged calm as speculation mounts over a political realignment involving Peter Obi and other opposition figures.
In a statement shared on X, the National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, said Obi was in consultations with political allies and stakeholders to determine “the most strategic and effective path forward” for Nigerians.
“The Obidient Movement acknowledges the growing concerns and widespread reports regarding recent political developments in the political landscape and evolving engagements with current and potential partners,” the statement said.
It added, “We urge all Obidients to remain calm, patient, and focused. Do not be swayed by speculative reports. Peter Obi remains fully committed to this mission and will, in due course, formally address the Obidient Movement and the general public to provide clarity on the current situation and the direction ahead.”
The movement said ongoing consultations are guided by its principles of integrity, accountability and citizen participation, insisting that any outcome would align with its vision of a “New Nigeria.”
“Our strength lies in our unity and focus. Let us remain steadfast as we await further communication,” it added.
The statement comes amid reports of a possible opposition realignment involving Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the next election cycle.
Sources said discussions were ongoing around a new political platform reportedly linked to former Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, though none of the actors has confirmed any defection plans.
The reports follow dissatisfaction within parts of the opposition over internal party structures and uncertainty triggered by recent Supreme Court rulings on leadership disputes, which returned key matters to the Federal High Court.
The developments have deepened tensions within opposition circles as leaders weigh future alignments ahead of the next election cycle.
