The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Jigawa State Command, says it has deployed officers across the state’s 27 Local Government Areas to ensure a peaceful Christmas and New Year celebration.
The PUNCH Online gathered that the deployment of NSCDC officers comes amid intense preparations for Christmas and New Year celebrations across Jigawa State.
It was learnt that Christian communities are gearing up for festivities, with shopping, buying clothes, and stocking up on foodstuffs in full swing.
Our correspondent observed that residents are busy making arrangements for family gatherings, church services, and social events, creating a buzz of excitement across Jigawa State.
Against this backdrop, in a statement made available to journalists by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASC Badaruddeen Tijjani, on Monday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, said the deployment includes regular and specialised units,
Tijjani specified that the deployment combined Operations, Anti-Vandal Unit, and Intelligence, to provide effective security coverage across all worshipping centres, places of gathering, packs, markets, among others.
The Commandant charged officers to adhere to Standard Operating Procedures and maintain professionalism.
“Places of worship, public utilities, and vulnerable areas are being protected, with major entry and exit routes manned for surveillance,” said the statement.
However, the Command urges the public to be law-abiding and report suspicious activities to security personnel.
Tijjani warned, “Parents and guardians are advised to monitor their wards’ activities during the festive period.”
“The use of fireworks and other dangerous items is discouraged to prevent panic and fire outbreaks.
“Vandals and criminal elements are warned to desist from targeting government installations and public utilities.”
Moreso, the NSCDC Jigawa spokesperson revealed that “anyone apprehended will be dealt with according to the law.”
The Command therefore wishes Christian faithful a Merry Christmas and all residents a peaceful New Year.
Tijjani emphasised the need for synergy with sister security agencies for overall success.
“We call on the public to cooperate with security personnel for a hitch-free celebration,” Tijjani said.
Yuletide is the period of several days around and including Christmas Day. It is between December 21 and January 1.
