President Bola Tinubu on Saturday received Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, at the State House, Abuja, where both men reviewed security operations in the North-West and the rescue of pupils abducted in Kebbi earlier this month.
After the closed-door meeting, Idris said the talks centred on the “successful rescue” of students seized from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga, Danko-Wasagu LGA, on November 17.
“I thanked Mr President for his leadership and decisive action in ensuring their safe return.
“His unwavering support and commitment to Kebbi State’s security are truly commendable,” the governor posted on his official X handle.
He also praised Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, for coordinating the mission.
According to the governor, federal security and intelligence agencies mobilised on Tinubu’s orders, leading to the girls’ rescue on November 26 and their formal handover to families at Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
Saturday’s meeting comes amid another wave of kidnap-for-ransom crisis in the North-West and North Central, where armed gangs have targeted schools.
On November 17, gunmen attacked Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga town, Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area of the State.
According to reports, 25 female students were abducted during the raid, though one of them managed to escape on the same day.
Following the abduction, the Federal Government, under orders from President Tinubu, directed security and intelligence agencies to mobilise immediately for rescue operations, which resulted in their rescue on 26 November.
The girls were then formally handed over to their families by Idris at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Since the 2014 Chibok attack in Borno State, Nigeria has grappled with mass school abductions.
