… accuses Adeola(YAYI) of failing to fulfill promises
Daughter of Former President, Prof. Iyabo Obasanjo has resigned her membership of the All Progressives Congress, accusing the leadership of the party in Ogun State of persistent disregard, rejection, and unfair treatment.
In a letter dated May 31 and addressed to the Ogun State APC Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi, Obasanjo, who recently vied for the party’s governorship ticket in the state, announced her resignation.
Obasanjo in a copy of the letter obtained by our correspondent on Monday, faulted the consensus process that led to Senator Solomon Adeola (Yayi)’s emergence as the party’s governorship candidate, arguing that it did not align with the APC’s established guidelines.
She stated that while she had committed to respecting any consensus decision reached by the party, she was neither consulted nor included in the process that led to Adeola’s emergence as the consensus candidate.
The former senator further alleged that some of her supporters were denied access to the venue where the candidate was unveiled and were subjected to acts of intimidation.
Obasanjo said that despite her reservations, she embraced the party’s decision and congratulated Adeola publicly on the night of his emergence.
She revealed that the senator subsequently reached out to her and requested a meeting with her supporters, during which they presented him with three demands.
The former senator explained that Adeola had assured her a response would be provided within a week. However, more than two months later, she said no feedback had been received.
She added that the situation was indicative of what she described as a wider pattern of the party failing to acknowledge or value her contributions.
Obasanjo said ” I agreed to support whichever candidate emerged through a concesus process, but I was not consulted before Senator Adeola was presented as the consensus candidate.
“Some of my supporters were denied access to the venue and intimidated. Nevertheless, I accepted the outcome in the interest of party unity and publicly congratulated Senator Adeola that same night.”
“Following his emergence, Senator Adeola requested a meeting with my supporters. During that meeting, three requests were made and he promised to respond within one week. More than two months later, no response has been received.”
“The treatment I have received since then has reflected a consistent pattern of rejection and disrespect. When disrespect is the only fish served, then one should leave the table. I am therefore leaving APC table where I am not welcome” She added.
The former senator, however, thanked President Bola Tinubu, Ogun APC Chairman Chief Sanusi, and the Ogun Central Senatorial leadership under Chief Soremi for the support and courtesies they accorded her during her time in the party.
