A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, Hon. Kayode Oladele, has said that an aspirant in the recently concluded governorship primary election, Abayomi Hunye, was ill-advised to have entered the race, insisting that the exercise exposed his lack of statewide political support.

Oladele said the outcome of the primary clearly showed overwhelming backing for Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as “Yayi,” who emerged as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to him, the scale of support enjoyed by Adeola across the state made it evident that Hunye lacked the political structure, grassroots network, and broad-based acceptance required to compete effectively.

He said the primary election reflected the collective will of APC members across Ogun State, noting that Hunye was “overwhelmingly rejected” by party delegates.

“Mr. Hunye was ill-advised to enter the race without first establishing a formidable political structure. The results were clear and unequivocal. Party members across Ogun State overwhelmingly voted for Senator Solomon Adeola Yayi because they believe in his leadership capacity and vision for the state,” Oladele stated.

He also pointed to voting patterns in Tube Ward, Ipokia Local Government Area—Hunye’s home ward—claiming it demonstrated the aspirant’s limited support base even within his immediate political constituency.

“The fact that Senator Adeola secured overwhelming support in Mr. Hunye’s own ward is significant. Politics begins from one’s immediate constituency. When an aspirant cannot secure support at home, it becomes difficult to claim statewide appeal,” he added.

Oladele further alleged that Hunye’s participation may have been influenced by external political interests aimed at undermining the “Ogun West Agenda,” though he said the party would allow time to reveal the truth.

He maintained that the APC primary was transparent and reflected the wishes of members across the state, describing Adeola’s emergence as the result of years of grassroots engagement and political investment.

According to him, APC members must now focus on party unity and preparation for the general election rather than lingering on internal contestation.

“The primary election has come and gone. The party has spoken. The responsibility now is to close ranks and ensure victory for APC. Personal ambitions must give way to the collective interest of the party,” he said.

Oladele warned against divisive statements capable of undermining party cohesion, expressing confidence that Adeola’s candidacy would strengthen APC’s chances in the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
