The Ogun State Police Command has been urged to ensure justice and protection for a 17-year-old boy linked to a reported sexual assault case in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The Prince Adesina Olalekan Foundation made the call, urging the command to treat the matter with urgency and ensure the teenager’s safety throughout the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, on Wednesday ordered an immediate manhunt for a man identified as Mr Kola, following an allegation of sexual molestation involving the teenager.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the victim’s parents formally reported the incident at the Adigbe Police Division on Tuesday.
The statement said the teenager, who was accompanied by his parents, alleged that Kola sexually assaulted him on three occasions in January 2026 and threatened him into silence.
Reacting to the development in a statement signed by its Managing Director, Habeeb Whyte, on Friday, the foundation said it had followed the case with concern and commended the police for their response.
“We particularly commend the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, for ordering an immediate manhunt for the suspect and directing that the matter be investigated with the urgency and sensitivity it deserves,” the foundation said.
The foundation said prompt institutional responses to reports of sexual abuse were important, particularly because victims and their families could be discouraged from reporting such cases due to fear, stigma or threats.
“At a time when victims and families may be reluctant to report sexual abuse because of fear, stigma, threats or lack of confidence in institutions, swift institutional responses such as this are important. They reassure the public that allegations involving the abuse of children will be taken seriously,” it said.
The organisation said the police response demonstrated the responsiveness and sensitivity expected of public officers entrusted with protecting citizens.
However, it urged the command to sustain the investigation and ensure that the case was handled in accordance with the law.
“The Prince Adesina Olalekan Foundation therefore calls upon the Ogun State Police Command to sustain the momentum of the investigation, ensure that the suspect is apprehended, and conduct a thorough, impartial and professional investigation,” the foundation said.
It added that where evidence established that an offence had been committed, the appropriate prosecutorial authorities should pursue the matter in accordance with the law.
