A non-governmental organisation, Foundation for Cancer Care, has announced plans to host its fourth “Swing Against Cancer” Charity Golf Tournament to raise funds for cancer screening, treatment support, and awareness in Nigeria.

The tournament, scheduled to hold on April 17, 2026, at the Golf Section of Ikoyi Club 1938, is aimed at raising funds for cancer patients and expanding access to early detection services across the country.

The 18-hole competition, tagged “Swing Against Cancer Charity Golf Tournament,” is expected to bring together cancer survivors, corporate organisations, advocates, and supporters committed to reducing the burden of the disease.

In a statement sent to PUNCH Healthwise, the organisers said proceeds from the event would support screening and treatment programmes, including plans to acquire a mobile screening unit to improve access to breast, cervical, and prostate cancer screening at the community level.

“Beyond being a friendly competition, the tournament also plays a significant role in supporting the foundation’s screening and treatment programmes across the country. The foundation’s goal is to purchase a mobile screening unit that will increase access to cancer screening, particularly for breast, cervical, and prostate cancers, at the community level to ensure early detection,” it noted.

The foundation said early detection remains critical in reducing cancer-related deaths, particularly in underserved areas where access to diagnostic services is limited.

Speaking on the initiative, the Chairman and Founding Trustee of the Foundation for Cancer Care, Dr Chukwumere Nwogu, said the tournament serves as both a fundraising platform and an avenue to raise awareness about the growing cancer burden in Nigeria.

“The game is not just a tournament to us at the Foundation for Cancer Care; it is a means of reaching out to Nigerians and corporate organisations to seek support at critical times like this. It also serves as a platform to create awareness about the burden of cancer in our society,” he said.

Founded in 2008, the foundation has supported individuals who cannot afford the high cost of cancer care, providing assistance for treatment and promoting awareness campaigns nationwide.

The organisation added that this year’s edition is focused on strengthening partnerships with individuals and the private sector to sustain its interventions amid current economic challenges.

Team Sacvin is the defending champion of the annual tournament.
