Olympic Day is a day to commemorate the inception of the Olympic Movement as envisioned by the esteemed founder, Pierre de Coubertin.
This was the submission of the President of Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC)
Engr. Habu Ahmed Gumel, on Saturday as Deltans joined the body to celebrate the 2025 Olympics Day Run in Asaba.
The founder’s aspiration, according to Gumel, is to enhance the world through the transformative power of sport. Thus, Olympic Day serves as an ideal occasion to rise and engage in physical activity
Engaging in sports, he noted, fortifies both our mind and body, promoting robust health and well-being.
“It compels human is to strive for excellence and fuels aspirations. Sport ignites dreams, disseminates joy, and fosters unity among all,” he sai
According him, Olympic Day consistently cultivates connections and solidarity.”
The profound essence of sport, he observed, includes, inspires man to be active, elicits the best within humans, nurtures good health, and unites beings as friends and a community, regardless of locations or the forms of movement chosen.
The magnificence of sport is that it propels the world into motion, transcending geographical boundaries and embracing diverse expressions of movement.
On his part, Delta State Governor, Rt Hon Shriff Oborewori said that the Olmpic Day celebration is very significant to the people of Delta State and Nigeria because it gives room for the Olmpic Spirit which unites the countr despite the diverse tongues and culture and sporting excellence so far recorded.
The Governor, who was represented by His Chief of Staff, Hon. Erick Joe said that the theme of this year’s event is very apt “Move, Learn, Discover, Together for a Better World” encourages everyone to actively participate in sports and learn from each other.
The Chairman of Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Onoriode Oborevwori said that the Olympic celebration encourages the entire world to be actively engaged in one movement or activity as it can only be beneficial to the good health of people.
