World Igbo Congress to hold convention on August 29
The Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, struck out a N50 billion suit filed by the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, against the Federal Government.
Justice Inyang Ekwo, in a ruling, struck out the suit for lack of diligent prosecution. When the matter was called yesterday, neither Kanu nor the Federal Government was represented by any lawyer.
Justice Ekwo observed that in the last adjourned day, while no lawyer was in court for the IPOB leader, the Federal Government was represented in court by a counsel.
The judge, who said that the case had taken three adjournments due to no representation, consequently struck out the case. Kanu had sued the Federal Republic of Nigeria and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) as 1st and 2nd defendants in the suit marked: FHC /ABJ/ CS/ 462/ 2022.
Kanu, who sued the defendants over allegations bordering on violation of his rights, alleged that he was kidnapped from Kenya and brought back to Nigeria to stand trial.
MEANWHILE, the Chairman of the World Igbo Congress (WIC), Dr. Festus Okere, and his executives have finalised a formal agreement with the Igbo Organisation of New England (IONE) for the group’s convention scheduled for August 29, 2025. The event marks the largest gathering of Ndigbo in the North-East of the United States of America (U.S.A) in a long time. IONE is a formidable Igbo organisation, and its decision to host Igbo leaders in the Diaspora could not have come at a better time.
The President of IONE, Bonny Chibueze, along with the Vice President, Dr. Ubiem, and the executive council, has assembled a team of seasoned administrators led by Dr. Joyce Nwosu and Dr. Ejike Eze. They will be responsible for developing and facilitating a host plan to promote the Igbo cause globally. The selection of a multi-venue arena at the 1,000 Marriott Boston Quincy has already been finalised. Among the benefits are direct flights and airport shuttle services. Reservations are first come, first served, and the promo code is WIC 2025.
