As part of efforts to strengthen and reposition the party ahead of future political contests, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the dissolution of all its local government and ward executive committees in Enugu State.

The newly inaugurated Caretaker Chairman of the party in the state, Dr. Ben Nwoye, made this known during a stakeholders’ meeting for the Enugu West Senatorial District on Sunday.

Nwoye explained that the decision followed a directive from the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) after extensive consultations with key stakeholders at both the national and state levels.

He said the dissolution was aimed at creating a more inclusive and vibrant leadership structure that would reinvigorate the party’s presence at the grassroots.

According to him, the APC in Enugu had in recent years grappled with internal divisions, factional disputes, and leadership crises that weakened its political standing.

The latest move, he said, would enable the party to rebuild with unity and focus ahead of upcoming elections.

“This dissolution is not a punishment; rather, it is a strategic move to rebuild the APC in Enugu State from the ground up. We want a party structure that truly represents the interests of our members — one that will be inclusive, transparent, and accountable,” Nwoye said.

He disclosed that the reconstitution process would soon begin, during which credible, dedicated, and grassroots-oriented members would be selected to fill leadership positions at both the ward and local government levels.

Nwoye assured members that the process would be transparent and provide equal opportunity for all willing to serve.

He also urged party faithful to remain united and view the restructuring as a positive step toward restoring the APC’s influence in Enugu politics.

He warned against internal sabotage and divisive tendencies, emphasizing the need to put the party’s interests above personal ambitions.

“Unity is the foundation for success in any political organization. We must come together as one family if we are to make meaningful progress. The APC remains a strong platform for change, and with this restructuring, we are confident that Enugu will soon become a stronghold of the party,” he noted.

Several stakeholders at the meeting commended the caretaker committee’s decision, describing it as timely and courageous.

They said the move would address long-standing issues of neglect, marginalization, and poor coordination that had hindered the party’s growth in the state, while also creating room for fresh leadership and new ideas capable of driving the APC to victory in future elections.
