The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Akeem Owoade, on Tuesday expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for approving the award of the contract for the construction of the Oyo Circular Road from Ijawaya–FGGC–Sabo–Ilora to Akinmorin in Oyo Federal Constituency.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the monarch’s Director of Media and Publicity, Bode Durojaiye, in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The Alaafin noted that, for decades, the poor condition of roads in Oyo metropolis had posed severe socio-economic challenges for residents, adding that the Tinubu administration’s prompt attention to the critical infrastructure would bring immense relief.
The PUNCH reports that the monarch, during a recent visit to the President at his Bourdillon residence in Ikoyi, Lagos, called for the urgent provision of critical infrastructure in the metropolis to improve the socio-economic well-being of the people.
Speaking through the statement, Owoade said the newly approved circular road, when completed, would transform residents’ daily lives and empower the metropolis by boosting the local economy, as farmers and traders would have faster access to major markets, while reducing travel time and crop spoilage and encouraging new business investments.
He said, “It will also improve healthcare and emergency access, as residents, particularly pregnant women and the elderly, can now easily access nearby hospitals and emergency services without delays caused by poor road conditions.
“This will also enhance safety and connectivity through the smooth, well-paved surface that will drastically reduce vehicular wear and tear, make daily commuting safer, and connect our communities to neighbouring towns.
“This landmark project stands as a testament to your (Tinubu) commitment to grassroots development and the dividends of democracy. We see your dedication to the infrastructural transformation of our nation, and we remain fully supportive of your administration’s continued efforts to bring progress to our metropolis.
“A massive thank you to our dear President Tinubu for his outstanding support and investment in our metropolis infrastructure. These landmark projects align perfectly with the Renewed Hope Agenda—creating jobs, connecting producers to markets, and uplifting lives.
“Your Excellency, President Tinubu, the good people of Oyo metropolis send our deepest gratitude for your visionary leadership and unwavering support.
“We pray for continued wisdom, good health and success as you pilot the affairs of our great nation. Thank you once again for listening to our plea and for remembering our metropolis,” the Alaafin said.
The paramount ruler also commended some illustrious sons of the ancient city, including Idris Adegboyega, Wasiu Adebisi and the Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacheus Adelabu, for their commitment and supportive roles in the development of the metropolis.
