United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, has expressed renewed concern over the deepening humanitarian and geopolitical impact of the ongoing Middle East crisis, warning that its consequences are being felt globally as the conflict stretches into its third month.
In a statement posted on Friday via his X account, Guterres underscored the far-reaching implications of the crisis, noting that it extends well beyond the immediate region.
“The Middle East crisis is in its third month & the whole of humanity is paying the price,” he stated.
The UN chief urged all parties involved to exercise caution and restraint, particularly in light of ongoing ceasefire efforts aimed at de-escalating tensions.
“All sides must refrain from actions that could undermine the ceasefire,” he added.
Guterres also stressed the importance of pursuing a lasting solution to the conflict, warning that temporary halts in fighting would not adequately resolve the underlying causes.
“The world needs a peaceful, comprehensive, and durable resolution to the conflict,” he said.
His comments come at a time of rising global concern about the humanitarian impact of the crisis, alongside mounting calls from world leaders and organisations for renewed diplomacy and continued efforts to ease tensions.
