A woman identified as Orinemi Ayanate is reportedly battling for her life in a hospital in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, after allegedly being stabbed by her fiancé during a disagreement.

Ayanate, covered in blood, was seen in a video circulating on social media pleading for someone to contact her mother. “IB did this to me. Help me and call mummy on WhatsApp,” she said, revealing that she was receiving treatment at a hospital on Odili Road.

The video has drawn widespread condemnation, with calls for justice against the alleged perpetrator. Witnesses reported that the suspect fled the scene after taking Ayanate’s phone, handbag, and wig. Neighbours rushed her to the hospital, where she received immediate care, including four packs of blood due to excessive bleeding.

Ayanate’s friend, Promise Wosu Junior, also known as Wene Port Harcourt, described the attack as a grave instance of domestic violence. “This relationship has been abusive, but this is the most severe incident,” Wosu said. “We call on the police to investigate and bring the perpetrator to justice.”

Friends and activists have urged the Rivers State Police Command to arrest the suspect, emphasising the need for a thorough investigation. They have also expressed concern over the rising cases of violence against women in the region.

While the police have been notified, they are yet to issue an official statement at the time of this report. Ayanate’s friends have encouraged journalists to engage with her once she regains strength, so she can recount her ordeal and ensure her voice is heard.
