A 47-year-old woman, Victoria Oaikhena, is appealing for public support to raise N71.9 million (approximately $47,000) for corrective and reconstructive surgery in India.
She has been battling a recurring facial tumour for over 11 years, which first appeared during her first pregnancy. Despite undergoing four major surgeries — three at the Lagos University Oaikhena Teaching Hospital (LUTH) and one at the Naval Hospital, Ojo — she continues to suffer complications, including inflammation and persistent discharge from her face.
She explained that after sending her medical test results to a hospital in India, doctors recommended a three-stage surgical procedure involving tumour removal, facial correction, and full reconstruction, with a total cost of $47,000.
Since May, she has been campaigning for assistance but has yet to raise enough funds to begin the first stage of the surgery.
She is appealing to well-meaning Nigerians to help end her pain and give her a chance at living a normal life again.
