A former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sunday Udeh-Okoye, has revealed why he decided to leave for the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).

Udeh-Okoye officially announced his resignation from the PDP on Monday, October 13, 2025, citing the loss of the party’s founding ideals.

In his resignation letter to the Agbogugu Ward Chairman in Awgu Local Government Area, he criticised the PDP for losing its principles of unity, justice, and equity, stating that it has deviated from its original mission as a champion of democratic governance in Nigeria.

Having formally defected to the APC, Udeh-Okoye, during an interview on Channels Television on Wednesday, revealed his reason for joining the ruling party.

“Switching to the APC was very good for me because they are organised. I tried to fix the PDP because I know the managers, including the National Secretary and several others, do not have what it takes to run the party, but I was not able to do that. It is now left to those who cannot even win their polling booths,” he said.

“As for the party structure in Enugu State, including the governor (referring to Peter Mbah) and the immediate past governor, we have all moved to the APC.”
