The West Africa Sustainability Summit and Awards 2026 will focus on climate finance and green investment as African countries seek to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable economies, according to the organisers.
Sustainable Report Africa Media Limited, organisers of the summit, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday ahead of the event scheduled for October 2 at Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island.
The summit, themed “Accelerating Africa’s Green Transition, People, Planet & Prosperity,” is expected to bring together stakeholders to discuss how environmental goals can be pursued alongside social inclusion and economic growth.
The organisers stated that the programme would focus on six thematic areas, including ESG Integration and Corporate Accountability; Climate Finance and Green Investment; Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security; Youth, Gender and Inclusive Sustainability; Policy, Regulation and the Green Economy; and Technology, Innovation and the Digital Green Transition.
The organisers said the discussions would cover sustainable business practices, climate financing, renewable energy, green investment, sustainable agriculture, carbon markets, biodiversity, digital technologies and inclusive economic development.
The focus on climate finance comes as African economies face significant funding requirements to address climate change while continuing to invest in infrastructure, energy, agriculture and other areas critical to economic development.
The organisers noted that Africa’s green transition would need to account for both environmental protection and human development, placing people, the planet and broad-based prosperity at the centre of the conversation.
The summit will also examine the role of businesses and investors in supporting the transition, with ESG integration and corporate accountability listed among its core areas of discussion.
The organisers also highlighted the role of young people and women, describing West Africa’s youthful population as an opportunity to drive green entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation.
“With a large and youthful population, West Africa has an opportunity to turn its demographic strength into an engine for green entrepreneurship, innovation and job creation,” the organisers noted.
The programme will also feature the West African Sustainability Awards, which will recognise organisations and individuals for their contributions to environmental, social and governance outcomes across West Africa and the wider continent.
The awards will cover Corporate Excellence, Leadership & Impact, and Innovation & Sector Awards, according to the organisers.
Nominations will be assessed by an independent panel comprising representatives from academia, civil society, the private sector and international development organisations, a structure the organisers said was designed to support credibility and transparency in the awards process.
