Deaconess Adenike Rafat Ajao, a staff member of Bells University of Technology, Otta, has died at the age of 59. She passed away on Sunday night, February 23, 2025, at the emergency ward of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta. Her husband, Mr Wale Ajao, a seasoned journalist and former staff of Vanguard, confirmed her death in a statement yesterday.
According to him, Deaconess Ajao had been battling multiple health conditions, including diabetes, chronic kidney disease, hypertension, haemorrhage, and heart palpitations for three years.
Her health reportedly worsened in mid-2024, leading to her being rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, on December 9, 2024. She was attended to at the renal ward due to the rupture of both kidneys.
After showing signs of improvement, she was discharged on December 27, 2024. However, her condition deteriorated again on January 14, 2025, prompting her return to the emergency ward, where she eventually passed away.
Mr Ajao also revealed that a funeral service for his late wife is scheduled for Friday, March 14, at Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Canaanland, Idi Iroko Road, Otta, Ogun State. She will be interred at the church cemetery.
The press had earlier reported Mr Ajao’s public appeal for financial assistance to raise N30 million for his wife’s kidney transplant. Unfortunately, she died before the fundraising efforts could be completed. He expressed gratitude to all those who supported his family during the challenging period.
