Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has expressed his delight after returning to training as he continues his recovery from a long-term knee injury, Soccernet.ng reports.
The Nigerian forward made a surprise season-long loan move to Werder Bremen from Bayer Leverkusen last summer after falling out of favour at the club.
However, his time in Bremen has been disrupted by a recurring knee problem that has kept him on the sidelines for the last three months.
Boniface featured in just 11 Bundesliga matches for Die Werderaner, failing to score before his last appearance in December.
The injury has forced him to miss 14 consecutive Bundesliga games and also ruled him out of Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 African Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the Super Eagles finished third.
He underwent surgery in January and was initially expected to miss the remainder of the season.
But his recovery has progressed quicker. After returning to individual training in late February and early March, Boniface rejoined Werder Bremen’s squad on Monday, raising hopes that he could still feature before the season concludes.

Speaking after his return, Boniface shared his excitement at being back on the pitch and is now focused on regaining full fitness.
“Hello guys, it’s Boniface. I’m really happy to be back. I was out for three months and now I’m back. I’m happy and looking forward to what we can achieve before the end of the season,” the 25-year-old said.
Boniface’s return comes as a timely boost for Werder Bremen, who are currently battling to avoid relegation.
Die Werderaner sit 14th in the Bundesliga standings and are just seven points clear of Wolfsburg in the automatic relegation zone with seven matches left to play.
The Super Eagles forward would be eased back into action due to his injury. Nonetheless, he will be hoping to make a return to the pitch as soon as possible to help the club in their push to secure their top-flight status.
