Tuesday, March 10

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Tuesday inaugurated the Accommodation and Transportation Committee for the forthcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress, as the ruling party intensifies preparations for what is expected to be one of its largest political gatherings in recent years.

The convention, scheduled to be held in Abuja between March 27 and 28, 2026, is expected to attract thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials and special guests from across the country.

A statement issued on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works (Media), Francis Nwaze, said the committee would be responsible for coordinating accommodation and transportation logistics for the large number of participants expected at the event.

Umahi inaugurated the committee at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, where he urged members to begin preparations early to ensure a seamless convention.

The minister, who co-chairs the committee alongside the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, said the success of any major political event depended largely on how well its logistics were organised.

According to him, the committee would oversee key operational areas, including transportation planning, accommodation arrangements, hotel engagements, and the movement of delegates and special guests throughout the duration of the convention.

The statement read, “In a step toward ensuring a seamless and well-coordinated 2026 All Progressives Congress National Convention, the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engr. David Umahi, CON, on Tuesday formally inaugurated the Party’s Committee on Accommodation and Transportation in Abuja.

“The strategic committee, which will oversee critical logistics for the forthcoming convention, was inaugurated under the leadership of Senator Umahi, who chairs the transportation component, while the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Abba Kabir Yusuf, heads the accommodation arm. Both committees are designed to function as sister structures, working in close coordination to ensure that every logistical detail of the convention is correctly handled.

“Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated. Transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue must also be well coordinated,” Umahi said.

“When these logistics work smoothly, the convention proceeds seamlessly. When they fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted. It is therefore the responsibility of this committee to ensure that the accommodation and transportation arrangements are properly planned, well coordinated and professionally executed.”

He expressed confidence in the committee members, noting that their combined experience and leadership positions within government and the party would ensure a successful outcome.

“I am confident that with the experience, commitment and leadership represented in this committee, we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner,” he added.

The minister formally declared the committee inaugurated, saying, “On behalf of my brother, the Governor of Kano State, His Excellency Governor Yusuf, the vice chairman, distinguished senators, the secretary of the committee, Arch. Dangiwa, and the assistant secretary, I hereby inaugurate the committee on transport and accommodation pending the official split of the committee, so help us, God.”

Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary of the committee and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the composition of the committee reflected the importance the party attaches to the success of the convention.

Represented by Aderemi Oseni, Dangiwa noted that the committee comprises governors, ministers, senators and other senior party leaders tasked with ensuring smooth logistical coordination.

According to him, effective accommodation and transportation arrangements would determine how efficiently delegates and officials participate in the convention’s political activities.

“The smooth organisation of the convention will depend largely on effective logistical arrangements, particularly accommodation and transportation for delegates and party officials,” he said.

“If the logistics are well handled, the political processes of the convention will proceed seamlessly. But when the arrangements are poor, even the most carefully planned events can experience disruptions.”

He explained that the committee would coordinate hotel reservations for party leaders, delegates and special guests, while also arranging transportation between airports, hotels and the convention venue.

The APC national convention is one of the party’s most significant gatherings, bringing together delegates from all states of the federation to deliberate on party policies, elect members of the National Working Committee and set the political direction of the ruling party.

The convention also comes at a time when the APC, which has governed Nigeria since 2015, is seeking to consolidate its internal structures and strengthen party cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.

With the inauguration of the logistics committee, party officials say preparations have now entered a critical stage aimed at ensuring that the convention proceeds without disruptions and reflects the organisational capacity of the ruling party.
