•Kogi council imposes curfew over killings, others
Two more Local Councils of Katsina State, namely, Sabuwa and Dandume, have entered into a peace deal with bandits as a way of addressing incessant attacks, killings and abductions.
The peace meeting was held on Saturday afternoon at Kabalawa Dungun-Muazu community, a village bordering both council areas, but located in Sabuwa council.
This brings to nine councils that have entered into peace deals with bandits, with the remaining councils, including Batsari, Kankara, Kurfi, Musawa, Danmusa, Jibia and Faskari.
The executive chairmen of Sabuwa, Sagir Tanimi, and his Dandume counterpart, Bashir Gyazama, who were present during the meeting, were said to have facilitated the deal.
During the meeting, which lasted several hours, it was agreed that there should be a ceasefire, with the bandits agreeing to stop attacking or harming the local communities.
Speaking, the chairman of the peace deal, Dr. Salisu Ladan, noted that the agreement aims to bring lasting calm between the Hausa and Fulani communities, putting an end to killings, kidnappings, and other forms of violence in the area.
THIS comes as Chairman of Kabba/Bunu local council of Kogi State, Zacchaeus Dare Michael, imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the area. A statement signed by the chairman and made available to The Guardian in Lokoja yesterday showed that the curfew would last from 6pm to 8am daily until further notice.
Dare said the movement of persons and vehicles would be restricted during the period. The statement said: “As the dust raised by the continuing killings in Yagba West LGA and Yagba East LGA is yet to settle, the Kabba/Bunu LGA authority, today, declared a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the local government area, following incessant killings in the locality.
“The curfew takes effect from tomorrow, Monday, 22 September 2025.”
