The Lagos State All Progressives Congress (APC) has said President Bola Tinubu’s fiscal revolution is rebuilding Nigeria “brick by brick,” noting the reform-driven approach of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

The party’s spokesperson, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, noted that Nigeria’s resilience in the face of global economic disruptions is a result of deliberate financial engineering driven by sound policy, strategic management, and disciplined revenue administration.

According to him, under the leadership of Zacch Adedeji, the FIRS has transformed from a traditional tax collector to a strategic fiscal institution, balancing revenue generation with economic stimulation.

He noted that the introduction of digital tax administration platforms, data harmonisation, and enhanced compliance frameworks has ensured that every taxable entity contributes fairly and transparently to national development.

Oladejo said the FIRS’ innovations, including the TaxPro Max System, automated VAT collection mechanisms, and the expansion of the unified tax identification number, have led to record-breaking revenue collections, saying these reforms have provided the fiscal muscle for critical infrastructure, social welfare, and debt sustainability.

He noted that the Renewed Hope administration recognises revenue stability as the foundation for national sovereignty, and by reforming the FIRS and enforcing fiscal discipline, the administration is freeing Nigeria from perpetual borrowing and dependency.

The Lagos APC calls on Nigerians to embrace the tax reforms as their patriotic contribution to nation-building, noting that paying tax is not punishment, but partnership.

He said: “Through the introduction of digital tax administration platforms, data harmonisation, and enhanced compliance frameworks, the FIRS is ensuring that every taxable entity contributes fairly and transparently to national development.

“The Renewed Hope administration understands that without strong fiscal foundations, no amount of political goodwill can deliver economic prosperity. The modern FIRS is therefore not merely filling government coffers—it is laying the groundwork for sustainable national growth.

“This administration recognises revenue stability as the foundation for national sovereignty. By reforming the FIRS and enforcing fiscal discipline across all tiers of government, the administration is freeing Nigeria from the perpetual cycle of borrowing and dependency.

“Each kobo collected through tax reforms is being reinvested into the people – in roads, schools, healthcare, security, and social investment programmes. The Renewed Hope vision is simple but profound: to build a nation that funds its own future.

“For us in Lagos, the success of the FIRS reform is not surprising. The Tinubu governance philosophy that revolutionised Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) two decades ago is now being replicated nationally.

“It was in Lagos that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu first demonstrated that efficient tax administration could transform a state from near insolvency to an economic powerhouse. That model – refined, digitised, and expanded – has become the backbone of the federal fiscal strategy under his presidency.”
