Residents of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, were thrown into panic following a suspected terrorist attack around Dala, Bulamari, and Ajilari Cross, in the early hours of Monday.
Our correspondent gathered that the attackers opened fire sporadically around 12:35 a.m., prompting a swift response from military and police reinforcements.
The spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, told our correspondent that police operatives have moved to the scene.
“Yes, there is a suspected terrorist attack at Ajilari Cross. I am currently on my way to the scene. I will give you details later,” he said.
Residents reported hearing explosions.
Abdulamalik Aminu, who lives near Pompommari Bypass, said, “From my area, we heard it loudly. All of us are outside now. Some people are trying to leave their homes. Boko Haram members are exchanging gunfire with security personnel, but for now, the situation has calmed down.”
Our correspondent also confirmed that, at the time of filing this report, military helicopters were hovering over Maiduguri and surrounding areas.
“Helicopters are currently flying around,” a resident who preferred not to be named said.
Details later.
