Barcelona’s Super Eagles prospect Destiny Kosiso has become a key one to watch for the Super Eagles in the future after scoring a hat-trick for his side against Villarreal at a La Liga tournament in Orlando, Florida, Soccernet.ng reports.

Every year, La Liga hosts a tournament to promote youth development. It is strictly for players under 12 years of age and has produced world-class talents like Lamine Yamal, Andrés Iniesta, Fernando Torres, and Dani Carvajal.

This year, the tournament was held in the United States, featuring 20 teams from various academies across the US, Argentina, Brazil, and Spain.

Real Betis won the tournament after defeating River Plate in the final. However, two Barcelona youngsters dominated the headlines – Destiny and Hugo Galdiano. Both players displayed exceptional chemistry throughout the competition.

In their match against Villarreal, Destiny scored a hat-trick. For the first goal, he demonstrated great strength to hold off a defender, drove towards goal, and slotted the ball into the bottom-left corner.

His second goal was quite similar, as he skilfully beat three defenders to finish from close range. For his third, he timed his run perfectly to beat the offside trap, latched onto a through ball from Galdiano, and slipped it past the goalkeeper.

Super Eagles: Can Barcelona Starlet Destiny Play for Nigeria

Given his name, it is clear that Destiny has Nigerian roots. He was born in Spain to Nigerian parents.

The youngster is one of the fastest-rising talents in La Masia and boasts a remarkable goalscoring record. Reports indicate that he has scored 145 goals in 52 games for the academy, and his immense potential has already earned him a sponsorship deal with global sports brand Nike at just 13 years of age.

Destiny is quick, excels at hold-up play, and possesses a powerful shot. He is certainly a prospect to watch in the coming years.

However, he may never play for Nigeria. Although his parents are Nigerian, he has stronger ties to Spain, having been born and raised there.

Given his calibre, the Royal Spanish Football Federation will likely do everything possible to keep him within the system.

Nevertheless, this is an opportunity for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to make a move, as he has yet to feature in competitive international football.

Reports suggest that the Barcelona prodigy has an older brother who already represents Spain at the Under-15 level. The NFF must therefore act swiftly and establish contact with his family.

Nigeria has already lost many top players eligible for the national team to European countries. Considering Kosiso’s rare talent and high ceiling, missing out on him would be a significant loss.
