Super Eagles: Chukwueze in €84m battle with Azeez, Tella, Usor & Yohanna

Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze could be set for the biggest battle of his international career since he made his Nigeria debut eight years ago, Soccernet.ng reports.

Since his promotion from the Golden Eaglets to the Super Eagles in 2018, Chukwueze has made 60 appearances for Nigeria, scoring seven goals. In that time, the AC Milan ace has claimed two bronze and one runner-up medals at the Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles.

Having outlasted Ahmed Musa, Henry Onyekuru and Samuel Kalu in that right winger role for the Super Eagles, Chukwueze now faces a different level of challenge.

The five players in the current equation carry a combined market value of €84 million, per Transfermarkt. Chukwueze now has a new market value pegged at €20m, Zadok Yohanna is at €18m, Femi Azeez and Nathan Tella at €15m each, and Moses Usor at €6m.

Each player represents a different stage of Nigeria’s present and future, and each gives Chelle a different solution on the flank.

Chukwueze’s case rests on experience and renewed club momentum. The 27-year-old has become an important figure again at AC Milan after his loan spell at Fulham, starting four of the club’s first five Serie A matches and producing two assists in 386 league minutes. His market value has risen by €2m to €20m.

He also started Nigeria’s 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo on Sept. 25, playing 61 minutes before being replaced by Usor. That substitution changed the evening.

Usor, valued at €6m, scored the winning goal on his Super Eagles debut, attacking space before finishing a powerful individual move. It was the sort of introduction that turns an unknown quantity into a player a coach must consider again.

Azeez offers a different skillset and quality. The Millwall attacker is valued at €15m and has had at least a goal contribution in each of his first two appearances for Nigeria. An injury has interrupted his progress, but his early international return has given Chelle evidence of his ability to influence matches from wide areas.

Tella, also valued at €15m, arrives with the strongest European résumé of the challengers. The Bayer Leverkusen winger has won the Bundesliga, German Cup and German Super Cup, yet his Nigeria career has produced only two caps without a goal. Injuries have repeatedly disrupted his availability.

Then there is Yohanna, the most intriguing long-term possibility. The 19-year-old Brighton winger is valued at €18m despite having no senior Nigeria cap. He joined Brighton from AIK after recording nine goal contributions in 12 matches across competitions and signed a contract through June 2031.

Chelle therefore has an unusual selection problem. Chukwueze brings the experience, Azeez the early international goals, Tella the European pedigree, Usor the freshest impact and Yohanna the promise of what could come next.

The right wing, once largely Chukwueze’s territory, has become a €84m conversation about who can shape Nigeria’s next phase.
