The Nigerian Army confirmed on Wednesday that several soldiers were killed in attacks by armed groups on military bases in Kaduna and Niger states.

According to a statement, the attacks took place on Tuesday at forward operating bases in Kwanar Dutse, Mairiga, and Boka in Niger State, and in Aungwan Turai, Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The army described the incident as a “three-pronged attack” and said troops from both land and air components launched counterattacks in response.

“In response, troops of the land and air components swiftly launched several counter-attacks that neutralised scores of the bandits during fierce engagements,” the statement read.

Four soldiers were reported to have sustained gunshot wounds and are receiving medical attention.

The military said clearance operations are underway in surrounding areas to pursue those who fled the scene.
