Russia and Nigeria meet at the Nizhny Novgorod Stadium on Tuesday as the Super Eagles look to end a difficult international window on a positive note.

Eric Chelle’s side will face Russia in their second meeting in 16 months, with both teams having played out a 1-1 draw at Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium in June 2025.

Nigeria come into the friendly seeking a response after a mixed start to their October international window.

The Super Eagles opened their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar in Uyo, but their momentum was halted four days later when they suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in Bissau. Chelle will now want his players to produce a stronger performance against a Russia side that has been in impressive form during its current training camp.

Russia have already beaten Iran 2-0 and Namibia 6-0 during the October camp, making the Nigeria clash their third and final match of the window. The hosts will also be playing in Nizhny Novgorod for only the second time, having previously beaten Cyprus 1-0 at the same stadium in a Euro 2020 qualifier in June 2019.

The Super Eagles, however, have had to contend with significant squad changes ahead of the encounter. Captain Wilfred Ndidi was ruled out after suffering a knock against Guinea-Bissau, while several other invited players were unable to travel because of club restrictions or injury. The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that only 18 players were in Russia ahead of the match.

The previous meeting between the countries ended 1-1, with Russia taking the lead through a Semi Ajayi own goal before Tolu Arokodare equalised for Nigeria. This time, both sides will be looking to finish their respective international windows with another positive result.
