A member of the House of Representatives representing Fagge Federal Constituency, Hon. Barr. Mohammed Shehu, has expressed deep concern over the prolonged neglect of severe ecological challenges threatening his constituency.

Shehu specifically warned that Kwanar Gogo quarters, an ancient community in Fagge, may soon be completely washed away by gully erosion, which has already placed several lives and properties at risk.

Briefing journalists on Thursday about the pressing challenges facing his constituency, the lawmaker lamented that residents of Kwanar Gogo have endured over two decades of persistent land degradation without a lasting solution.

He noted that despite several inspections and surveys by the Ecological Fund Office, no significant intervention has been made. Shehu denied knowledge of any N2 billion reportedly released to address the erosion problem, urging the Federal Government to take urgent action.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, Kano State received over N2 billion from the Ecological Fund between January and May 2025 through the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC).

Highlighting his efforts in the National Assembly, Shehu said he has sponsored several motions and bills to address the ecological threat and improve the lives of Nigerians.

“I have sponsored a motion of urgent public importance on the gully erosion in my constituency, calling on the Federal Government to intervene and save hundreds of lives at risk of being washed away,” he said.

He also noted that he sponsored a motion to stop the Office of the National Security Adviser from collecting the cybersecurity levy and introduced bills for the establishment of Fagge Medical Centre and a Federal Dental College, both of which have passed second reading.

Shehu added that he has submitted petitions against the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Police for alleged human rights violations and disobedience to court orders, and co-sponsored a bill for the establishment of an oil pipeline protection agency.

On empowerment initiatives, Shehu disclosed that he has disbursed cash grants to thousands of small business owners to boost the local economy, provided industrial sewing machines to over 200 tailors, renovated health centres, and paid over ₦300 million in student scholarships over the past two years.
