The federal lawmaker representing Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Obi Aguocha, has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) for intervening in the medical care of detained separatist leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja, Aguocha confirmed that following his formal appeal to the DSS Director General, Mr. Adeola Ajayi, Kanu had been relocated to a secure medical facility and was receiving treatment in line with his doctors’ recommendations.

“I am personally monitoring the welfare of Mazi Kanu, and I can confirm he is under proper medical supervision,” Aguocha said.

He dismissed circulating reports claiming that Kanu was not receiving adequate care.

The lawmaker praised the prompt actions of Mr. Ajayi and the AGF, Chief Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), describing their response as “an affirmation of leadership, compassion, and respect for human rights.”

He added, “This matter is not solely political or legal. It is fundamentally about human dignity, the sanctity of life, and the supremacy of the rule of law. I commend the DSS and the Attorney General for showing responsibility and empathy.”

Aguocha further emphasized the need for a political approach that balances justice with reconciliation. “It is crucial to adopt a political solution that upholds justice while fostering reconciliation, peace, and stability across the Southeast,” he stated, highlighting his broader vision for resolving tensions in the region.

The lawmaker’s comments follow heightened attention on Kanu’s detention and medical condition, signaling continued legislative oversight and advocacy for humane treatment of detained individuals.
