The First Lady of Yobe State, Hafsat Buni, on Tuesday distributed food items to 2,000 vulnerable women across the state.

‎Buni, who also serves as the State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative, said the gesture was aimed at supporting vulnerable women during the holy month of Ramadan across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state.

‎Represented by the Commissioner for the Yobe State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Mairo Amshi, the First Lady said, “The Renewed Hope Initiative will continue to empower women, strengthen community resilience, and support vulnerable populations across the state.”

‎She added that initiatives like this are important in addressing food insecurity and improving the welfare of women in communities across Yobe State.

‎According to her, the Ramadan packages contain essential food items, including rice, spaghetti and cooking oil, which are meant to ease the burden on widows and vulnerable women during the fasting period.

‎She further explained that the programme is intended to reach vulnerable women across the state, providing not only food support but also restoring hope and encouraging empowerment.

‎In her remarks, the Commissioner for the Yobe State Ministry of Women Affairs, Yajalo Badama, said the gesture aligns with the vision and leadership of Mai Mala Buni, who has consistently encouraged government officials to extend support and relief to the less privileged across the state.

‎She noted that the humanitarian effort reflects the values of compassion and service associated with Ramadan, while also highlighting the people-focused leadership style of Governor Buni.

‎Badama added, “This initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach every community, particularly the most vulnerable, so that no one is left behind.”

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. During this period, Muslims around the world observe fasting from dawn to sunset.

It is a time dedicated to prayer, reflection, reading the Quran, giving charity, and strengthening community and family bonds.
