Zamfara State Police Command
Operatives of the Zamfara State Police Command have rescued several abducted travellers following a fierce gun battle with armed bandits along the Anka–Bukuyum road in Zamfara State.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama disclosed the development on Thursday via his official X handle, citing security sources familiar with the operation.
According to the sources, the rescue mission was carried out on the evening of June 10 after police received actionable intelligence on the movement and activities of armed bandits operating along the axis.
The operatives reportedly mobilised swiftly to the area and engaged the criminals in a gun duel.
The bandits, overwhelmed by the security response, abandoned their victims and fled into nearby forested areas.
Several motorcycles allegedly used by the attackers were recovered during the encounter, according to the security sources.
The rescued travellers were evacuated to safety and are currently receiving support, while arrangements are being made to reunite them with their families.
Following the operation, security forces have intensified patrols and clearance missions along the Anka–Bukuyum corridor in an effort to prevent further attacks and track down fleeing suspects.
The route remains one of the most volatile in Zamfara State, frequently targeted by armed groups due to its proximity to forest hideouts used as operational bases for kidnappings and ambushes.
Security officials say the latest intervention highlights the importance of rapid response and sustained presence along vulnerable highways in the region, as authorities continue efforts to dismantle bandit networks operating across the state.
