The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued an abandoned newborn baby boy found wrapped in a nylon bag in Bwari Area Council, Abuja.

The baby was rescued on Monday, November 2, 2026, and taken to hospital for medical attention after being found in a critical condition, the police said.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a video shared on Facebook on Tuesday, appealing to residents to provide information that could help identify the baby’s mother.

Adeh said the newborn had bruises on his hand and one of his arms, adding that the police were making efforts to ensure he received proper medical care.

“We picked this baby in a very bad condition. This baby is a baby boy. The baby boy was abandoned, wrapped in a nylon bag, and he was badly injured,” she said.

The police spokesperson said the baby had been taken to hospital and would subsequently be handed over to social welfare officials.

She urged residents of Bwari to report any information about the baby’s mother to the nearest police station or contact the FCT Police Command’s Gender Officer on 08036259662.

Adeh also appealed to residents to provide information about any woman who had recently been pregnant but could no longer be seen with a newborn.

Addressing women dealing with unwanted pregnancies, she urged them to seek assistance from social welfare offices or the nearest police station rather than abandon their babies.

“If you don’t want the baby, you can walk into the social welfare office or any nearest police station and we will assist you. Instead of abandoning these children, come to us and we will help you,” she said.

The police spokesperson added that there were people willing to care for children and urged mothers facing difficult circumstances to seek help rather than expose newborns to danger.

Recall that in September, The Federal Capital Territory Police Command rescued two abandoned babies in separate incidents recorded in Kurudu and Gwagwalada areas of Abuja.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh said the first incident occurred at about 5:30pm around Obodo Street, Kurudu, when a resident, identified as Innocent, heard the cry of a baby and discovered a baby boy wrapped in a cloth and abandoned inside a carton.

In a similar incident, Adeh said a baby girl was rescued later the same day in Gwagwalada after a resident, identified as Ibrahim, heard her crying outside his gate at about 9:40pm.
