Imo State Police Command said it has launched a detailed investigation towards the safe rescue of the abducted former House of Assembly member in the state, Ngozi Ogbu.
The ex-Imo lawmaker was seen in a viral video being held hostage by suspected gunmen, who, among other conditions for his release, demanded the immediate redeployment of security personnel designated in the Okigwe Local Government Area of the state.
The Command’s spokesman, DSP Henry Okoye, in a release made available to newsmen, said the Commissioner, Aboki Danjuma, has ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Tactical Units to apprehend the hoodlums behind Ogbu’s abduction.
Okoye said the Command appeals to the general public to remain calm and vigilant, while urging anyone with useful information that can assist the ongoing operations to report accordingly.
“The Imo State Police Command is aware of a viral video showing Hon. Ngozi Ogbu, former State Legislator who represented the Okigwe State Constituency, being held hostage by suspected IPOB/ESN terrorists.
“The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma, has since ordered the immediate deployment of the Command’s Tactical Units, in synergy with other security agencies, and a detailed investigation has been launched to apprehend the hoodlums and ensure the safe rescue of the lawmaker who was abducted at Onuimo on 07/09/2025.
“The Command appeals to the general public to remain calm and vigilant. Anyone with useful information that can assist the ongoing operations should please contact the Imo State Police Command on 0803 477 3600 or report at the nearest Police Station.
“The Imo State Police Command assures Imolites that it will not relent until the perpetrators are brought to justice and the victim is safely reunited with his family,” the release read.
The ex-lawmaker, who is also the former chairman of Okigwe Council, was said to have been abducted while on his way to his hometown for the onward preparation of the forthcoming burial of his late mother.
